Family Self-Sufficiency Program Services

Participants in the FSS program receive a comprehensive range of services designed to support their journey towards self-sufficiency.

These services are organized by a team called the Program Coordinating Committee (PCC). This team works hard to gather support and resources from both public and private groups to make sure the FSS program runs smoothly. The PCC also makes sure that the help that residents receive is just right for them, fitting their own personal needs and goals. Some of these services include:

  • Job Placement and Job Training: Assistance in finding and securing employment, as well as training to improve job-related skills.
  • Educational Services: Opportunities for further education, including GED programs, college courses, and vocational training to enhance employability and career prospects.
  • Parenting Skills: Programs aimed at improving family dynamics and providing support in effective parenting strategies.
  • Homeownership Programs/Training: Education and resources for participants interested in becoming homeowners, including understanding mortgages, managing finances, and navigating the home-buying process.
  • Childcare Services: Assistance in finding and affording quality childcare, enabling participants to attend work and training programs.
  • Budgeting and Financial Literacy: Workshops and counseling on managing personal finances, creating budgets, and planning for the future.
  • Medical Treatment/Support: Access to medical services and support for physical and mental health needs.
  • Life Skills Training: Courses on essential life skills, such as time management, effective communication, and problem-solving.
  • Fair Housing Education: Information on tenants’ rights and responsibilities, understanding fair housing laws, and addressing housing discrimination.
  • Family Planning Resources: Access to family planning services and education to support participants in making informed decisions about their families’ futures.
  • Substance Abuse Programs: Support and resources for individuals dealing with substance abuse issues, including counseling and rehabilitation programs.
  • Entrepreneurial Training: Guidance and support for participants interested in starting their own businesses, including business planning and management skills.
